Influenced by his brother who owned a surfboard factory in the 80's (Skip Free), started surfing at the age of four literally having his board carried by his mom to the beach as he couldn't extend his arm around the rail. Some years later started his competitive carreer from the beginners division in local contests to the Nationals. After finishing first in Juniors in 97 and concluding High School, spent one year in North Narrabeen, Australia, where he studied English and improved his surfing in different conditions along the Australian coast. Back in Brazil, continued competing professionaly alongside with university studies, graduating a few years later in Marketing.
In mid 2005, moved to California searching a better proximity to the surfing, cinema and music world. Attended a series of cinema courses, consolidating later an old hobbie when he'd put together scraps of video from VHS tapes with a friend that today translated into Roma Filmes, a video company responsible for the production of surfing, fashion, adventure and documentary films.
Even with good results throughout his professional surfing career, Michelangelo felt his connection with surfing was getting lost in the competitive world and freesurfing seemed the path to take. A path that to this day dictates his routine and passion for surfing and traveling, which is sometimes devoured by the competitive side of the sport.
Nowadays, travels the world as a freesurfer and filmmaker and captures his experiences through films and photographs, publishing his materials in various media.
